Welcome to NikNok
Thanks for showing up and peeking in!
Perhaps you know me from the days when I ran a record label and event-promotion company, Let’s Play House, or from the one that came after, Zen 2000. Maybe we intersected even earlier, when I ran my music blog BiBaBiDi, or more recently, through Nilo, my furniture-and-miscellany operation. Perhaps you’ve simply met me on the streets of Tokyo or Amsterdam, Shanghai or Paris! However you wound up on this page, I’m happy you’re here!
I’m currently L.A.-based but Tokyo-competent; I’ve studied and spoken the language since I was a kid, lived in Japan for a year as a high-school senior, and have recently been spending a lot of time there once again. Consequently, I’m seeking full- or part-time work in a trans-Pacific position for a firm or person situated astride the worlds of culture and commerce.
I'm a curious and adventurous guy who sees life as a never-ending R&D exercise. Every day offers a new opportunity for an "inspo trip," a deep dive down a rabbit hole, a side-quest detour, or a nights-and-weekends project. This is the energy I intend to weave into the fabric of this newsletter. If that's what brought you here, or what you're looking for, then welcome! I hope you stick around and have fun on the journey.
NikNok is where I'll collate and organize as much of what I come upon into one place, turning the mental archive I've haphazardly built into a public-access, free-to-all library.
Tune in
Never miss a post! I'll be sharing anything and everything from unusual art and design to upstart fashion ateliers, niche record labels to locals-only restaurants. Every post will come with text and photos, and from time to time, you'll get playlists, maps, original illustrations and graphics, and links to new products I'm making.
Clue in
I love sharing my knowledge and enthusiasms with all who find resonance in them—and vice versa! My goal is to encourage more creativity and curiosity in the world. Thus, NikNok isn't just a place for me to take note of everything I know; it's also meant to be a space for those tuning into similar frequencies to do the same and find community along the way.
